1945 — January 28, 2015

Reverend Luther W. Hutchinson departed this life on Wednesday morning, January 28, 2015 at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, Texas, with his loving and devoted wife and family by his side. Rev. Hutchinson was born March 28, 1945 in Shawnee, Oklahoma. He was the oldest son of Anslun Hutchinson, Sr. and Martha B. Thompson Hutchinson. His early school years were spent in Hotulka, Oklahoma. He graduated from Ryan High School in Ryan, Oklahoma. Because of his love for his country, he enlisted in the United States military immediately after graduating from high school, serving in the United States Navy for 10 years and several more years in the United States Army. He was a Vietnam War Veteran. A Visitation/Wake has been scheduled for Friday, February 6, 2015, 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. (Program starts at 6:30 p.m.), at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. The funeral is scheduled to be held Saturday, February 7, at Galilee Baptist Church, 1011 Briarwood, Abilene, Texas at 1:30 p.m. The burial will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, February 9, at The Texas State Veterans Cemetery at Abilene, 7457 West Lake Road (FM 600). Two of his dearest friends, Rev. Gregory C. Trotter, Pastor of Friendship Baptist Church of The Colony, Texas, will be the Eulogist, and Rev. Iziar Langford, Pastor of Southwest Drive Community United Methodist Church of Abilene, Texas will be officiating. Rev. Hutchinson attended the School of Theology at Missouri State, and completed ten seminar hours in the Jewish Rabbi Doctrine. He received an Associate Degree of Psychology, Sociology and Anthropology from the University of Arkansas, and a Certificate of Merit in Effective communication at Mid-Western State University. He is a graduate of the Medical Technical School from Charity State Hospital in New Orleans. He received his B.T.H. from New World Bible College, Ft. Smith, Arkansas. He married Marjorie Lockett Hutchinson on August 21, 1986. He worked various jobs throughout his adult life including counselor for the Mentally Challenged Youth Program for the State of Louisiana. He loved farm work, specifically working with farm animals. Therefore, he always made sure he had a sufficient amount of land to raise and care for the animals he enjoyed raising. The job he loved most was the one involved in serving the Lord. He believed, second only to the time spent married to his wife, some of the happiest and most blessed times of his life were the 14 years he pastored Solomon Temple Baptist Church in Stamford, Texas, and the 16 years he pastored Mt. Sinai Baptist Church in Abilene, where he was pastoring at the time of his death. He believed a pastor should be active not only in his church, but in his community also. He worked with many different groups and organizations throughout the communities where he lived and pastored. He was the immediate past Moderator of the Progressive West Texas Baptist Association. He was the Past President of the Greater Abilene Ministerial Alliance. He once served as President of the NAACP for Jones and Knox Counties. For his service, he was the recipient of numerous awards, including being nominated Man of the Year by the Southern Baptist Convention. Rev.
