Loyd E. "Gene" Weaver, 89, died Thursday, June 17, 2009, at his residence in Abilene.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday June 20th, at the First Baptist Church Chapel in Abilene, officiated by Dr. Phil Christopher and Rev. Palmer McCown. The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene, Texas.
Born in Slaton, Texas on January 17, 1920, Gene was the son of Mattie Louise (Abbott) and William Holly Weaver, and graduated from high school in San Angelo, Texas. He attended Angelo State University and graduated from Texas Tech University. He was a U. S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, having served in England (1941-46). He married Imogene Douthit on July 29, 1949 in San Angelo. The couple had been residents of Abilene since 1952.
Mr. Weaver was a geologist for Davis Brothers, retiring in 1990. He was a member of the Abilene Geological Society.
A longtime member and Deacon Emeritus of First Baptist Church in Abilene, he also taught 1st Grade Sunday School for over 30 years.
His parents; twin sister, Claudene Malone; and four brothers, Carl, Olen, Woodrow and Noel Weaver preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Imogene "Gene" Weaver of Abilene; daughters, Jan Hegg and husband, Rob, and Dena Prosen, all of Dallas; grandson, Matt Prosen; granddaughter, Sarah Elizabeth Prosen; and several nieces and nephews.
