Lona Etna Monroe Carr passed from this life Sunday, April 11, 2010.
Funeral services will be conducted at The Hamil Family Funeral Home Chapel, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene, on Tuesday, April 13, at 2:00 p.m. officiated by Dr. Jeff Reid and Rev. Jason Wright. Burial will follow at Elmwood Memorial Park. Nephews will serve as pallbearers.
Etna was born March 20, 1918, in Oplin, Texas to Sebe and Mattie McKinley Monroe.
After graduating from Oplin High School, Etna married J. C. Carr in 1936. The Carr's owned and operated Carr Plumbing. Etna was the secretary for Hardin-Simmons University Maintenance Department for fourteen years. Etna loved teaching Bible classes for college students and ladies for many years at South Side and Hamby Baptist Churches. She was a member and treasurer of Hamby Baptist Church. Playing Canasta with her friends was Etna's favorite hobby.
Etna was preceded in death by her husband, J. C. Carr, her parents, and two brothers, Clifford and Alton Monroe.
Survivors include a brother S. D. Monroe and wife Goldie of Abilene, and a sister Lucille Ford of Ovalo; nieces Debbie Alexander and husband Steve of Granbury, and Carolyn Atkins and husband Chris of Lawn; nephew Randy Ford and wife Beverly of Frisco; five great-nieces and nephews and six great-great-nieces and nephews.
