Lisa Nichols Simpson, age 50, loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend, left her earthly home in Friendswood, Texas on Thursday, May 28, 2009, after a battle with pancreatic cancer. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 2, 2009 at 2:00 pm at Elmwood West United Methodist Church, in Abilene, Texas. Holding the service will be the Rev. Robert Pelfrey. Burial will follow in Ft. Phantom Hill Cemetery. Services are under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.
Lisa was born on June 7, 1958 to Doyal and Wanda Nichols in Anson, Texas. Lisa grew up and attended schools in Abilene, Texas. After graduating from Abilene High school, she attended Hardin-Simmons University. She married David Neal Simpson on June 6, 1980. While living in Abilene, Lisa worked for West Texas Council of Governments and Region XIV Education Service Center. Her most recent work was as clinic coordinator for the Epilepsy Foundation of Texas at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas.
Lisa is survived by her husband, David Neal Simpson, her son, Kyle Simpson and her daughter, Melissa Simpson, both of the home. She is also survived by her mother, Wanda Nichols of Abilene, a sister Gina (Greg) Goettsch of Abilene, brothers, Joe (Connie) Nichols of Potosi and Dan (Traci) Nichols of Ft. Worth. Also surviving are nieces, Olivia Nichols and Amanda Nichols and nephews, Paden Goettsch and Wyatt Goettsch, as well as her mother-in-law, Jeanette (John) Caronna of Abilene, brother-in-law, Bryon (Beth) Simpson of Burleson, Texas and sister-in-law, Luene (Jack) Williams of Aubrey, Texas. She also leaves behind special friends, John and Raquel Cornell of Alvin, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her father, Doyal Nichols, her father-in-law, David Lee Simpson, her grandparents, Dave and Tommie Nichols and J. D. and Vera Mae Cooley.
Pallbearers will be Damon Cooley, Cliff Snell, Ricky Carroll, Harold Sumrall, Jayson Nichols, and Michael Nichols.
The family will be at 2009 Westwood Drive.
