Linda Farr Cheek entered Heaven in the early morning hours of October 25th, 2023, after suffering a stroke six days earlier. She was born in Abilene, Texas on April 4, 1943, to J.A. Farr Jr. and Mary Louise Howard Farr.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Friday, November 3, 2023, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Rd. Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm on Saturday, November 4 at Wylie Baptist Church, with burial following at Elmwood Memorial Park.
Linda grew up on a family farm just south of Wylie hill in Abilene, Texas. She graduated from Wylie High School in 1961 and McMurry College in 1965. She went on to a 32-year career with Abilene Independent School District teaching 1st Grade at Crockett, Anson Jones, Dyess, and Bassetti Elementary Schools. She was passionate about teaching and enjoyed watching her students learn to read. She considered them to be her own and loved them.
Linda married Ronnie Lynn Cheek at Aldersgate Methodist Church, in Abilene, on June 21st, 1963. They celebrated 60 years of marriage this past June. They lived most of their lives in the Wylie Community attending Wylie Methodist Church with her parents and Wylie First Baptist Church.
Linda is survived by her husband of 60 years, Ronnie Cheek of Mesquite, formerly of Abilene, and her brother Larry Farr and wife Pam of Abilene. Also survived by son Randy Cheek and his wife Dorthea of Bryan, Texas, daughter Jennifer Russell and her husband Joseph of Kaufman, Texas, grandson Mackenzie Russell and his wife Lou of Dallas, Texas, grandson Jacob Cheek of Madison, Wisconsin, granddaughter Emily Womack and her husband Zack, of Harker Heights, Texas, and granddaughter Haley Linn and husband C.J. of Dallas, Texas. Lastly, she is survived by a great-grandson, Judson Womack, who is due to be born in mid-November. She was looking forward to his arrival. Linda was preceded in death by her parents, sister-in-law Gelora Farr, and many cousins, aunts, and uncles she loved dearly.
She was a beautiful woman in countless ways. She loved her Savior, loved her family, loved being a Wylie Bulldog, and loved watching a good football game. She made friends easily and cared for them intently. She lived life to the fullest, continuing to visit with friends, play games, swim, and enjoyed nature right up to her final days using her stroller. If you didn't get going, she might run you over. It took a massive stroke to bring her physically to a halt. Her stroke didn't stop her from saying her sweet goodbyes. She remained a Christian example to her children in her final days. She was able to communicate the importance of reading our Bible everyday as she had and her desire to go on to Heaven to see her Savior and rest. She is with Jesus and enjoying her forever incorruptible body. She always enjoyed a reunion with friends and family. She will experience an even greater reunion when we are all called home one day to spend eternity with our Lord and with our loved ones. Be confident and assured that for Linda, this is truly only the beginning.
"If I go to prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also." John 14:3
