Lila Joy Henderson

Lila Henderson, 81, died Friday, October 19, 2007 at a local hospital. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 5:00 pm on Sunday, October 21 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm on Monday in the chapel at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park. August 2, 1926, Lila was born in Corsicana, Texas to Richard Reid and Mattie (Kane) Reid. She graduated from Carlton High School, near Dublin, Texas in 1944. April 14, 1945, Lila married R.L. Henderson in Hico, Texas. Abilene has been her home since 1946. Lila worked in the shipping department at Aileen's for seven years. She also worked in the cafeteria at Reagan Elementary School for several years. She was preceded in death by her parents, six brothers, and four sisters. Lila is survived by her husband, R.L. Henderson of Abilene; two sons, Ken Henderson and wife Patricia, of Abilene, and Randy Henderson and wife Linda, of Merkel; one sister, Mattie Faye Stricklin of Dallas; three grandchildren, Scott Henderson and wife Lisa, Ashley Rodgers and husband Andy, and Danielle Mitchell and husband Paul. She is also survived by nine great-grandchildren. The family would like to express their thanks to Dr. Keith Robinson, Dr. Trammell, and the staff of Hendrick Health System and Hendrick Hospice Care.
