On Friday evening, April 18, 2025, Lewis “Larry” Thompson, 80, of Fort Worth, passed away in Grapevine, TX into the waiting arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Visitation will be Thursday, April 24, 2025 from 5-7 p.m. and funeral services will follow the next afternoon on Friday, April 25, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. Both events are under the direction of Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, Abilene, TX 79606. Burial will follow at Elmwood Memorial Park, 5750 US-277S., Abilene, TX 79606. Pastor Chuck Reynolds will be officiating.
Larry was born in Tampa, FL to Pete and Flora Thompson on September 17, 1944. He graduated from King High School in Tampa in 1962 and promptly joined the United States Air Force where he was stationed at Dyess AFB in Abilene, TX. Here he met and married Carol Harris on August 17, 1964. He worked as a jet engine mechanic on the C130 until his honorable discharge in 1966. He then served in the Air Force reserves for 2 years before moving on to his chosen career in insurance. He worked for various insurance companies over the years and finally settled with WoodmenLife as a salesman and area manager where he retired in 2015 with over 45 years of experience in the industry. He previously served as president of WoodmenLife Chapter 136 and was always involved with church ministries and many community outreach programs.
He was a dedicated father of two daughters, grandfather of four and great-grandfather of four. Larry was preceded in death by his wife, Carol, in 2022, his parents, Pete & Flora Thompson, brother & sister-in-law, Gerald & Louise Thompson, nephew, Charles “Dan” Thompson, mother-in-law, Juanita Harris, sister-in-law & brother-in-law, Judy & Bill Giles, brother-in-law, James “Jim” Harris, and son-in-law, Ronald Revland.
Larry is survived by his children, Kim Allen & Bill of Fort Worth and Sandra Revland of Abilene; four grandchildren, Katelyn Campbell & husband Micah, Bryce Allen, Hali Revland-Pedroza & husband Alex, and Matthew Price; four great-grandchildren, Troy, Trinity, Ozzy and Bonnie, sister-in-law, Patsy Harris, niece, Catrina Chesnut & husband Gary and countless lifelong friends.
Pallbearers will be Bill Allen, Bryce Allen, Micah Campbell, Matthew Price, Raymond Price and Alex Pedroza.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation or the American Diabetes Association.
