Leticia Newman, 54, of San Antonio, passed away on November 4, 2024 in San Antonio.
Visitation will be from 5 PM to 6 PM, Tuesday, November 12, 2024, at
The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, followed by a Rosary from 6 PM to 7 PM.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10 AM Wednesday, November 13, 2024, at St. Vincent Pallotti Catholic Church, 2525 Westview Drive in Abilene, TX, with the Reverend Emilio Sosa officiating. A gathering will follow at the church fellowship hall from 11 AM to 12:30 PM. Burial service will start promptly at 1 PM at The Texas State Veterans Cemetary at Abilene, 7457 Westlake, Rd. Services are under the direction of The Hamil Family Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.
Leticia was born in Alice, TX to Guadalupe and Minerva Garcia on January 2, 1970. She went to Alice High School in Alice, TX, and Cooper High School in Abilene, TX. While attending school, she was active in the Alice High School Band and the Awesome Cooper Band in both the honors and jazz bands. She was a talented alto and tenor saxophone musician, won many awards and recognitions, and was always in competition for first chair. For a brief time, she was also a member of an independent rock band, Mystix. In addition to being a talented musician, she excelled in mathematics and helped her sister with many late-night homework assignments. She graduated from Cooper High School in 1988. Shortly thereafter, she enlisted in the United States Air Force, where she served honorably as an Airfield Management Specialist for three years. After service in the military, she was a dedicated military wife and mother who worked tirelessly in the care and upbringing of her two sons. She was involved in the military spouse’s club at every base she was stationed, where she was able to share her love of crafts and baking. Recently, she worked as an Accounting Technician for the 502nd Force Support Squadron at Joint Base San Antonio, TX for four years.
Leticia is survived by sons, Zach Newman, and Ryan Newman, sister, Livia Martinez, brother, Leonires Garcia, parents, Guadalupe and Minerva Garcia, nephews, Tristan Martinez, Isaac Garcia, and Logan Garcia, and one niece, Emma Martinez. She also leaves behind many wonderful cousins, special friends, and loving aunts and uncles.
Leticia is preceded in death by her daughter, Lorena Garcia, her brother, Lazarus Garcia, her grandparents, Placido and Jesusa Garcia, and Abel and Rosa Barrera, as well as several aunts and uncles.
Pallbearers will be Benito Barrera Jr., Danny Ortiz, Leonires Garcia, Zach Newman, Ryan Newman, and Emma Martinez.
Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society and The Til Valhalla Project. The family of Leticia wishes to extend our sincere thanks to all the doctors and nurses at Brooke Army Medical Center, MD Anderson, and Vitas Inpatient Hospice Center San Antonio.
