Letha Lee White, 96, was born on January 4, 1917, at Shep, Taylor County, Texas, to Glenn and Lillie Jackson. She passed from this life and into the arms of her Savior on May 4, 2013. She grew up and attended school at Shep. Letha married the love of her life, Audie White on July 19, 1935, and they eventually settled in Abilene. She retired from Abilene Independent School District and Hendrick Home for Children. She was a member of Belmont Baptist Church.
She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grand mother, and great-great-grandmother. She loved cooking, sewing, gardening, fishing, bowling, camping and doing things for her family and friends. She was hard working and took great pride in her home and all that she did. She was an avid Dallas Cowboy fan. She had many friends who loved her as much as she loved them.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Audie; daughter, Mary Ruth Schmidt; grandson, Randy Schmidt; daughter-in-law, Debra Schmidt; parents, Glenn and Lillie Jackson; sisters, Elba Herron and husband Bobby, Vida Talley and husband Irvie, Ruby Ballard and husband Eddie; brothers, Loy Jackson and wife Edna, Milton Jackson and wife Alma, Hershel Jackson and wife Avo.
Survivors include her daughter, Glenda Traylor and husband Tom of Corsicana; son-in-law, Roger Schmidt of Abilene; Grandsons, Paul Schmidt and Lisa Watson of Allen, Chris Borden and Dawn of Justin; Granddaughter, caregiver and companion for the past 15 plus years, Janna Dean and husband Jason of Abilene; Granddaughter, Shawna Al-Mashouq and husband Yossef of Austin; nine great-grandchildren, Pepsi Hawkins and Russell of Frisco, Bobby Tackett and Jamie of Abilene, Tallan Hubbard, US Navy, stationed at Coronado, CA, Garrett Hubbard of Abilene, Chase Borden and Kristina of McKinney, Chloe Borden of Allen, Makayla Borden and Kalyan Borden of Justin, Aden Al-Mashouq of Austin; nine great-great-grandchildren, Casey and Dax Hawkins, Jordyn and Haise Tackett, Kyleigh, Hayleigh and Breeleigh Borden, Brendan and Conner Borden. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 10, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home Chapel, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene with Rev. Jimmy Griffith officiating. Interment will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 9, at the funeral home.
The family would to thank all the caregivers who contributed to her care during these last few months including Kinder Hearts, especially her nurse Sharon Starks, and her personal caregivers, Mae Beaver, Danni Louw and Bertha Turner.
