LeRoy Herbert Mason Jr., passed away on September 22, 2023, in Abilene, TX.
Visitation will be September 24, 2023, from 3pm-5pm at The Hamil Family Funeral Home at 6449 Buffalo Gap Rd.
Funeral services will be held at 10 am on Monday, September 25, 2023, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home. Graveside services will follow at 1 pm at The Moran Cemetery. Kris Sutton will officiate the funeral at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, and Dale Mason will officiate graveside.
LeRoy was born in Plainview, TX to LeRoy Herbert Mason and Myra G Burden on June 27, 1938. After the death of his father his mother moved the family to Abilene where he graduated from Abilene High School in 1956 and attended Abilene Christian College. LeRoy honorably served in the United State Marine Corps from 1956-1958. LeRoy was a minister in the Church of Christ, a part of management in the Footlocker Corporation and was employed by Elliott Hamil/Hamil Family Funeral home until his retirement in 2014. LeRoy was married to Ivy “Miss Ivy” Matthews Holdbrook on May 11, 1976 until her passing on January 20, 2012. LeRoy was then re-introduced to Mary Beverly in 2012 and they married on January 28, 2013. They would spend the next 10 years looking after each other. He was active in the Abilene Kiwanis for many years as well as his churches, bowling leagues and traveling.
LeRoy was preceded in death by his parents LeRoy and Myra Mason, stepfather Ray Roberts, wife “Miss Ivy” Mason, daughter Karen Riddle, grandson DJ Riddle, sisters Atriel Rutherford and Doris Cochran, brothers Tommy, Homer and Cliff Mason and Charles Roberts.
LeRoy is survived by his wife, Mary Mason; daughter and husband, Pam and Pab Patino (Mineral Wells); daughter, Tammy Gravitt (Arlington); son-in-law, Donald Riddle (Baird); son and “his favorite” daughter-in-law, Van and Kathie Holdbrook (Callahan County); daughter, Missy Mason Moritz; son, Leroy Jones and their families, both of Nebraska; brother and wife, Jerry and Lavern Mason (Baird); sister, Kathy Beene; and brother-in-law, Wayne Rutherford; grandchildren: Renee, Melissa, Alexis, Cameron, Candace, Tasha and Seth, 18 great grandchildren and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.
Pallbearers will be Justin Miller, Kason O’Shields, Tyler Radford, Tanner Radford, Shaun Yardley and Jesse Valentine.
Memorials may be given to Kinder Hearts Hospice Abilene. The family of LeRoy Mason wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Windcrest Health and Rehabilitation for their care, concern, and attention to LeRoy these last few years.
