Leonard Carmichael, 92, died on Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at an Abilene medical center.
Born in Idalou, Texas on July 18, 1920, Leonard was the son of Emma Amanda (Lamb) and James William Carmichael. He grew up in Lubbock and served in the US Army during World War II (1942-1945).
Leonard was an optical technician, having worked for Broome Optical in Lubbock, Texas from 1945-1951. He then worked for Methodist Hospital in Lubbock for 30 years as the dispensing optical technician. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Lubbock. In 1998 he moved to Highland Park and to Abilene in 2002.
Leonard married Pauline Hall on December 31, 1955 in Santa Fe, New Mexico. She preceded him in death on June 25, 2006.
Leonard is survived by two sons, Michael Carmichael of Plano, TX and Don Carmichael of Georgetown, TX; stepdaughter, Judy Thomas of Fort Davis, TX, sister-in-law, Pat Clayton of Abilene; three grandchildren, Ellen Armstrong of Canton, TX, Louis Thomas of Dallas, and Jill Miller of Richardson, TX; and a great-granddaughter, Gretchen Miller.
A graveside service will be at 1:00 p.m. Friday, January 4, in Jayton Cemetery in Jayton, Texas with Rev. Roy Mosley of First Baptist Church in Spur, Texas officiating, directed by The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene.
