Leona Belle Haskew, of Oplin, died Wednesday, November 28, 2007 at the age of 85. Funeral services will be at 11:00 am on Saturday, December 1, 2007, with Rev. James Teel and Rev. Rodney Watson officiating, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Burial will follow in the Potosi Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Friday in the chapel at the funeral home.
Leona was born June 22, 1922 in Abilene, Texas to Lunsford and Lela (Clements) Brannan. She graduated from Abilene High School in 1940, and remained a loyal eagle fan all of her life. February 15, 1941 Leona married Norman Haskew in Abilene. In 1966, Leona moved from Abilene to Oplin. She worked as a Quality Control Inspector for Texas Instruments until her retirement.
Leona was a member of the AARP, the Oasis Coachmen Caravan Club, the Central Texas Appaloosa Horse Club, and the Texas and National Appaloosa Horse Club. She was also a member of the Cooper Band Booster Club, the IAPES, AQHA, the Callahan Baptist Association, and the Oplin Baptist Church. Leona was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Norman Haskew on March 1, 2007. Leona is survived by two daughters, Holly Anna Walston and husband Wally of Abilene, Vickie Sue "Susie" Tyson and husband Red, of Oplin; six grandchildren, Tommie N. Tyson, Todd N. Tyson, Joy S. Cloud, Michael N. Cloud, Taylor Walston and wife Lorraine, and Travis R. Walston; five great-grandchildren, Timmy Tyson, Destanie Poindexter, Tristan Cloud, Brett Walston, and Cait'Lyn Walston.
