Leona Fuchs

Leona I. Fuchs, 100, left her earthly home and entered her Heavenly home on May 1, 2009. Funeral services will be held Monday, May 4, 2009 at 1:30 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Born in Bushdale, Texas on March 26, 1909, Leona was the daughter of Gus and Minnie Von Gonten. She attended school in Bushdale. Leona married Walter Fuchs on December 21, 1927 in Buckholts, Texas. They moved to Abilene in 1957. Leona loved her family. She enjoyed working in her yard and cooking and baking, especially for her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, and in her younger years she enjoyed teaching Sunday School and Bible School. She was active in church work all of her life. Leona was preceded in death by her husband, Walter, her parents, Gus and Minnie Von Gonten, one brother, one sister and an infant son. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Dorothy and John Beale; two grandsons and their spouses, Mark and Lori Beale, and Paul and Shelly Beale; three great-grandchildren, Brandon, Blair and Brooke Beale, that she dearly loved. She will be greatly missed by her family. Memorials may be made in honor of Leona to the Zion Lutheran Church Building and Improvement Fund, 2801 Antilley Road, Abilene, Texas 79606.
