Leona M. Davis, 87, of Tye, Texas passed away Saturday, June 25, 2016 in Abilene, Texas.
Born in Seguin, Texas on March 15, 1929, Leona was the daughter of Dedrich and Lonie (Levrets) Waxler. She attended Abilene High School. Leona married Billy N. Davis on January 3, 1948 in Caps, Texas. Over the years she worked for Woolsworth, Timex and Sears. Rev. Leona M. Davis, a minister herself, worked alongside her husband in their chapel for truckers, Bethel Full Gospel Ministries. She was a true Christian woman who loved her God, husband, children and family. She was a beloved mother, well-known for her cooking and baking. Her favorite scripture in the Bible was John 3:16.
Her husband of 64 years, Billy N. Davis; her parents; and brother, Dickie Waxler preceded Leona in death.
Leona is survived by four children, Teresa Culbert and husband Jimmie of Abilene, Billy R. Davis and wife Denise of Kaliah Kona, Hawaii, Gaylon W. Davis and wife Suzane of Telephone, TX, and Deborah Ellison of Abilene; sister Charleen Ashby of View, TX; brother-in-law, Bobbie R. Davis of Tye, TX; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 29, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home Chapel, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene, with Rev. Jim Ritter officiating. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Eula Cemetery. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
