Leon Constable

Darvin Leon Constable, 85, of Abilene, Texas passed away Monday, April 20, 2015 at a local medical center. Leon was born in Coleman County, Texas on August 3, 1929, to Author Darvin and Fannie Brown Constable. In 1949, they moved to Abilene, where he met and married Marion Haley on October 7, 1950 in Novice, Texas. He was a U.S. Army veteran and the National Guard, having served in the Korean Conflict. Following his military service, Leon graduated in 1956 from Barber College in Austin, Texas. He owned and operated Cutting Edge Barber Shop, having been a barber for 56 years. Leon was a Sunday School teacher, Deacon and very active member in his Lord’s service at Elmcrest Baptist Church for many years. For the past seventeen years he was a member at Beltway Park Baptist Church, actively serving as a greeter, a Life Group Leader, and servant in straightening the sanctuary on Monday mornings for about nine years. Leon is survived by his wife Marion Constable of Abilene; two daughters, Sheri Ann Constable of Abilene, and Darla Gay Constable of Clyde; three grandsons, Thomas Smith and wife Yolanda, Kristofor Smith, and James Smith and wife Christina all of San Antonio; one granddaughter, Haley Garvin of Abilene; one great-granddaughter, Jordan Smith and one great-grandson, Tripp Garvin. Survivors also include a brother, George Constable and wife Brenda of Abilene; a sister, Louise Brown and husband Don of Gardendale, Texas; one sister-in-law, Ann Constable of Midland; nephews; nieces; cousins and many friends. Preceded him in death were his parents, Author and Fannie Constable; one sister, Dorothy Logan and husband Mack; and two brothers, Dean Constable and John Constable and wife Odessa. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, April 23, in the Beltway Park Church Chapel directed by The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene. Burial will follow in Caps Cemetery. Visitation will be 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 22, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the donor’s favorite charity.
