Harvey Leon Barr, 73, of Abilene, died Thursday, April 22, 2010 in Fort Worth Texas.
The son of Melba (Rutherford) and William Paschall Barr, Leon was born on September 11, 1936 in Eula, Texas, and graduated from Clyde High School before attending Baylor University and McMurry University. He was a rancher and worked for Tony Lama as a boot salesman for 27 years. He was a member of University Church of Christ in Abilene.
Leon married Donna Sue Pierce on September 5, 1959 at the Highway 36 Church of Christ. She preceded him in death on August 24, 2008. He was also preceded in death by his son, Brandon Leon Barr, in August, 1988.
Leon is survived by his daughter, Bronwyn Sue Brewer of Hurst; two grandchildren, Brynn Elizabeth Brewer and Bailey Sue Brewer; two sisters, Elaine Barr Poole of Matagorda, Texas, and Eva Rose Turner of Eula, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.
Funerals services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, April 26, at University Church of Christ in Abilene, with Bill Luttrell officiating. Interment will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery directed by The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene. The family will receive friends at a visitation from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Sunday, April 25, at University Church of Christ.
Bill Blascyk, Frank Scarborough, Bob Hayes, Blayne Buchanan, Mike Rutherford, and Randy Cade will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Larry Padget, Butch Nelson, David Ballard, Bob Branch, Budd Hoff, Glen Smyth and Glenn Cannon.
