Leland Samuel (Sam) Stranathan, Jr., 70, passed away on January 23, 2014, in San Antonio, Texas after a courageous battle with cancer. Interment will follow a graveside service to be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, January 29, 2014, in Elmwood Memorial Park with The Rev. N. Luke Back, Rector of the Church of the Heavenly Rest, Episcopal in Abilene officiating. Services are under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Rd. in Abilene.
On January 28, 1943, in Blytheville, Arkansas, Sam was born to Leland S. Stranathan and Ann Patterson Stranathan. Sam was a graduate of Balboa High School, Panama Canal Zone, Panama and Texas Tech University with a Bachelor of Business Administration. In 1985, he made San Antonio his home and at time of death was employed by Bruce Baumann Real Estate, Inc.
Sam Stranathan is survived by nephews Lee Henson and wife Laura of Abilene, Carter Henson and wife Michelle of Missouri City, Edward Henson and wife Melissa of Plano, niece Ann Butler Hicks and husband Billy of Tuscola, twelve great nephews and nieces, and longtime lady friend, Sandi Hoecker of San Antonio.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Major General Leland S. Stranathan and Ann Patterson Stranathan, his sisters Harriet Virginia Stranathan and Ann Lee Barr.
