Leighton Allan Witt, 54, died Thursday, January 24, 2013 at an Abilene medical center.
The family will receive friends at a visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, January 28, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 29, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Janice Six officiating. There will be a gathering of family and friends at Leighton’s home following the service on Tuesday from 4 to 6 p.m.
The son of Frances (Kinnibrugh) and Wesley Witt, Leighton was born on July 26, 1958 in San Antonio, Texas. He moved to Denton, Texas where he grew up and graduated from high school. He was employed by the Texas Department of Criminal Justice as a correctional officer.
In 2007, Leighton was preceded in death by his wife, Sharron Kaye Witt, whom he married on August 24, 1979 in Abilene. He was also preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Paul Sims and Bruce Sims.
Survivors include his two daughters, Pamela Witt of Antelope, California, and Tammy Chapman of Abilene; granddaughter, Kadence Chapman; sister-in-law, Darleene Sims; and one niece, Shelley Hamilton and her family. Leighton is also survived by his fiancée, Beverly Black Edwards of Abilene, and her children Stacy Horton, Lindsey Mauldin, Lainey Edwards and two grandchildren, Cooper and Edie.
