Lee Elliott (Tiny) Wisdom III
On Wednesday, February 12, 2014, Lee Elliott (Tiny) Wisdom III went to be with the Lord after a courageous battle with lung cancer and paralysis. Throughout his battle so many people saw God through him. He never complained, but greeted each new day with a smile.
Tiny was born in Abilene, Texas on August 24, 1955 to Lee and Ruby Wisdom. He attended Crockett, Jefferson, and Cooper. In college he attended McMurry University, South West Texas State, and the University of Texas majoring in engineering. He worked for Nuclear Products Services in Austin designing shock absorbers for nuclear reactors.
He faithfully followed the Texas Longhorns, the Dallas Cowboys, and the Texas Rangers, never giving up on them even during a losing season.
Tiny was a vessel of vast knowledge. He researched ancestry, Hebrew, and science. If you needed to know something, Tiny could tell you the answer or look it up for you. He researched family histories for families and friends.
When you met Tiny, what you encountered first was his deep faith in God. He served as a deacon at First Christian Church and followed in his father’s footsteps as chief greeter on Sunday mornings. Twice a month he cooked the eggs to feed the homeless at Breakfast on Beech Street. He also was the youngest member of the church dartball team, hitting many homeruns.
Although Tiny never married or had any children, he became a second dad to his nieces, nephews, and great-nephews. They could say his name before they could pronounce any others. He constantly served as a Christian role model to all.
When his parents became ill, he left his job to return to Abilene to become their principal care giver, taking care of his mom with cancer for five years and his dad with Alzheimers for ten years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lee and Ruby Wisdom, and his brother-in-law, Randy Perkins.
He is survived by his sisters, Lynn Ann (Larry) Yerger, and Bitty Perkins; nephews, Kody (Chelsea) Yerger and Sage (Alex) Yerger; nieces, Shelly (Cody) Brotherton and Kelly (Brad) Gray; and great-nephews, Kinsler Gray, Dylan Yerger, Hunter Brotherton, and two more babies on the way; and numerous cousins and friends.
Visitation will be Friday, February 14, 2014, from 5 to 7 p.m. at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene.
Services will be Saturday, February 15, at 2:00 p.m. at First Christian Church with Dr. Don Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park.
Tiny was small in size but big in love and concern for everyone. He made a gigantic impact on all who knew him, and his death will leave a huge hole in our hearts.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Breakfast on Beech Street (BOBS) c/o First Christian Church, 1420 North 3rd Street, Abilene, TX 79601.
