Dr. Lee Williamson died August 17, 2007. The body will be cremated. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday, August 21, 2007 at the Episcopal Church of the Heavenly Rest under the direction of the Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. The cremains will be placed in the church Columbarium following the funeral service. Lee Thomas Williamson was born on May 1, 1914 in Terrell, Texas. He was the son of Lee John Williamson and Emma Sue Thompson Williamson. After graduating from Terrell High School, he attended Texas Military College of Terrell. The University of Texas in Austin, and Texas University Medical Branch in Galveston graduating in 1938 with B.A. and M.D. degrees. He was a member of Phi Kappa Psi social and Phi Beta Pi medical fraternities. Dr. Williamson completed training as a specialist in Pediatrics at Charity Hospital, New Orleans, Louisiana in 1942. He served with the United States Army Air Force as Captain until 1946. He graduated from the Army Air Force School of Aviation Medicine and was Flight Surgeon and Post Surgeon at various Air Force training bases in the western United States. His last duty assignment was with the Sixth Air Force in Panama. Dr. Williamson practiced pediatric medicine in Abilene from 1946 until his retirement in 1986. He was a diplomat of the American Board of Pediatrics, a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and a Fellow of the American Academy for Cerebral Palsey and Developmental Medicine. He was on the medical staff of Hendrick Hospital and served several terms as chief of the Pediatric Service. From 1978 to 1986 he served as pediatrician on the medical staff of Abilene State School. Dr. Williamson was a member of the first Board of Directors of the West Texas Rehabilitation Center, the Taylor Jones Haskell County Medical Society, the Pediatric Association and the American Medical Association. On October 1, 1949, Dr. Williamson married Mary Wyley Grisham at the Episcopal Church of the Heavenly Rest in Abilene, Texas. He is survived by his wife, sons: Lee John and Wyley Ray, and wife, Miriam, and grandchildren: Ashley Iulani, Rachel Kaleonai, Isaac Lee and Marlee Fay Williamson. Dr Williamson was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Winona Coon, and a niece, Celinda Moniz. Dr. Williamson was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Heavenly Rest and had served on the parish vestry and as junior warden of the church. Dr. Williamson was proud to be a member of the Sons of the American Revolution and the Sons of the Republic of Texas.
