LaVerne C. Rollins

1924 — July 29, 2017

LaVerne C. Rollins, 92, known by many as “GoMommy”, passed away Saturday, July 29, 2017 in Abilene, Texas.  Funeral services will be at 10:00 am, Tuesday, August 1, 2017 at First Central Presbyterian Church with Rev. Felecia Hopkins officiating.  Burial will follow at 2:30 pm in the Union Cemetery in Gustine, Texas directed by The Hamil Family Funeral, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.

LaVerne was born in Comanche County, the youngest of four daughters, on November 10, 1924 to Arthur Hill Cox and Viola Frances (Vinson) Cox.  She married Billy (Bill) Jack Rollins on June 20, 1942 in Brownwood, Texas.  LaVerne and Bill lived in Anson, Cisco and Brownwood during their marriage. He preceded her in death July 16, 1986.  LaVerne worked as a secretary for the Brownwood Independent School District.  She moved to Abilene in May of 2008 and was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church and enjoyed playing bridge. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Hill and Viola Cox, her sisters, her husband, Bill Rollins, a granddaughter, Meredith Warren and a great-grandson, Jonathon Rollins.

LaVerne is survived by her son, Mike Rollins and wife Barbara; her daughter, Sheila Warren and husband Mike, all of Abilene; three grandchildren, David Rollins and wife Dezi, Jeffrey Rollins and wife Samantha, and Rachel Warren; two great-grandchildren, Jack Rollins and Justin Rollins; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Memorials may be given in honor of LaVerne to St. Paul United Methodist Church, 525 Beech St., Abilene, Texas 79601, or to the donor’s favorite charity.
