LaVaughn West LaVaughn West, 86, of Abilene, died Wednesday, October 18, at Mesa Springs Healthcare. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park. July 26, 1920, LaVaughn was born in Olvy, Arkansas to Ernest and Ennis (Sparks) Selvidge. LaVaughn has been a resident of Abilene since 1941. She was formerly employed in the boys clothing department at Grissoms Department Store, Minters Department Store, S & Q Clothiers and F & S Clothiers. She was passionate about boys clothing. LaVaughn enjoyed playing bridge and dominos. She was known for her warm smile and laugh. LaVaughn was a member of University Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by both of her parents, her husband, Howard G. West, and one sister, Ernestine Heighton. LaVaughn is survived by one son, Gary L. West and his wife Deborah of Tooele, Utah; one daughter, Linda Taubert of Abilene; four grandchildren, David Taubert and his wife Debbie of Abilene, Nancy Boone of Hartford, Connecticut, Julie West of San Antonio, Daniel West of Midland, and four great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank the staff of Mesa Springs Healthcare, Hendrick Health Care and Dr. David Longley.
