Laura LaVoy Roberson, 81, died Friday, March 1, 2013, at an Abilene nursing home. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, March 4, 2013 in the Sun Dial section at Elmwood Memorial Park. Rev. Jim Ritter will officiate. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 pm on Sunday at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.
LaVoy was born in Abilene, Texas on July 20, 1931 to Robert and Melissa (Young) Arnold. She attended school in Caddo and in Gorman before graduating from Wylie High School in 1948. After graduating high school she attended at Draughn’s Business College. LaVoy worked as a Deputy Clerk for the Taylor County Sherriff’s Department for 28 years before retiring in 1991. Prior to working for the Sherriff’s Department, she had worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone, Draughn’s Business College and Shell Oil Company.
She was married to Riley Crawford from 1950 to 1970. LaVoy married Willis Roberson on February 4, 1972. He preceded her in death on October 31, 1998.
LaVoy was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, Riley Crawford and Willis Roberson; her brother, James Stacy Arnold; her sister, Billie Iris Martin; and one grandson, Paul Whisenhunt. She is survived by one son, Prentiss Lee Crawford and wife Laurie of Arlington; one daughter, DeeAnna Loftis and husband David of Abilene; two grandchildren, Casey Crawford and Kinsey Crawford, both of Arlington; four great-grandchildren, Jordan Whisenhunt, Hanna Whisenhunt, Colten Farthing and Kaydence Crawford; one great-granddaughter, Faith Cerda and several nieces and nephews.
