Laura Jeanette Hancock Parris, 81, passed away on Thursday, May 12, 2016 in Abilene, Texas.
The daughter of Ollie Ophelia (Taylor) and William Robert Hancock, she was born on October 4, 1934 in Wingate, Texas, and was a 1952 graduate of Wylie High School. She worked 45 years in the business office at Hendrick Health Systems as an insurance and billing clerk. She was a member of Wylie Baptist Church.
On May 31, 1958, she married Homer Carrol Parris in Abilene, Texas. He preceded her in death in 2010. She was also preceded in death by her parents; sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Jesse Edmondson; brother, James "J.R." Hancock; niece and her husband, Beth and Mike Richards; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Joe and Louise Parris.
Survivors include nieces, Janice Schoolcraft of San Antonio, Carolyn Wallace (Danny) of Abilene, Sharon Shipley of Plainview, TX, Tammie Lynn (David) of Abilene, and Pam Rawlings (Fred) of Mt. Pleasant, TX; nephews, Randy Hancock (Julie) of Lubbock, Russell Hancock (Brenda) of Euless, TX, and Ricky Parris (Pug) of Abilene; several great and great-great nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Dorothy Hancock of Plainview, TX, and cousin, Donella Long (Fred) of Early, TX.
Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, May 15, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, May 16, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Jim Ritter officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Jesse Rawlings, Brent Shipley, Randy Hancock, Tanner Hancock, David Lynn and Nathan Hancock.
