Laura Fern Higgs Reynolds, 90, died Friday, November 19, 2010.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, November 22, in Hillcrest Church of Christ Chapel with Gary Lowe and K. B. Massingill officiating directed by The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Burial will follow in Fort Phantom Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Reynolds was born August 25, 1920 at Nugent, Texas to Sarah Hargrove Higgs and Oby Higgs. She married Ruel Williford "R.W." Reynolds on March 27, 1937. They were married sixty years before his death in 1997. She was a homemaker, and in 1978, moved from Putnam, Texas to Abilene where she was a member of Hillcrest Church of Christ. She was a former member of Women's Study Club in Putnam. Mrs. Reynolds was an excellent seamstress and loved painting and poetry.
Also preceding Mrs. Reynolds in death were her parents; son, Roger Davis Reynolds in 1986; and grandson, James Martin Isenhower in 2010.
She is survived by four daughters, Willa Fern Reynolds of Abilene, Janice Bennie and husband Bill of Mineral Wells, Janell Cochran and husband Jerry of Conroe, Meta Isenhower and husband John of Putnam; and one son, Roddy Reynolds and wife Elaine of Abilene. Her eight surviving grandchildren are Joy Cochran Burwell, Jill Cochran Holley-Smith, Jan Holland, Kelly Bennie Brown, Michael Bennie, Laura Isenhower Massingill, James Reynolds and Steve Reynolds. There are twenty-five great-grandchildren: Kathryn, Grace and Jonathan Wallace: Brianna and Jasmine Carr:
Elise, Alexander, Chloe, Emily, Caleb and Sarah Kerley; Misty, Joshua and Ariel Holley; Brooke Holland; Micah, Noah and Rebecca Brown; Savannah Bennie; Joshua and Jessalyn Massingill; Jason Brown and Alysa Isenhower; Lena and Brenna Reynolds; and one great-great-granddaughter, Olivia Holley; and sister, Viola Higgs Hopkins of Abilene; as well as two sisters-in-law, Joan Reynolds Lowe and Jessie Simpson Reynolds, and numerous nephews, nieces cousins and friends.
The family expresses special thanks to Hospice of the Big Country and the staff of The Oaks at Radford Hills for their compassionate care.
