Larry Ashorn, 66, of Clyde, Texas, formerly of Abilene, died peacefully on September 9, 2012.
Born in Old Glory, Texas on August 27, 1946 to Leland and Olima Ashorn, Larry spent his early years working alongside his father on the family farm. Shortly after graduating from Old Glory High School, he began working at Safeway in Abilene. Following its closure, he worked in management at United where he had remained a friendly face to co-workers and customers until his passing.
He enjoyed spending time with his daughters and grandchildren, all things hunting, and tinkering in his toolshed. He devoted much of his free time to leading youth hunts for the boys from Ben Richey Boys Ranch.
He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother, Elroy.
Survivors include his daughters Stephanie Moore and her husband Cliff of Abilene, Amy Ashorn of Austin, and Pam Travis of Bastrop; granddaughters Morgan and Rylee Moore, and grandson Hayden Moore, all of Abilene; and sister Eunice Jowers of Abilene.
Visitation will be at Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, September 12. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, September 13, at Wylie Baptist Church, 6097 Buffalo Gap Road, with Rev. Price Mathieson officiating. Burial will follow in Old Glory Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Kevin Watson, Ronnie Hamilton, Keith Young, Kameron Watson, Chris Goodman, Jim Farley, Bobby Sheppard and Marshall Davis.
