LaNelle Montgomery

Hazel LaNelle Montgomery, 89, went to be with her Lord and Savior and her heavenly family on Thursday, April 9, 2015. LaNelle was born on May 14, 1925 to Thomas P. and Lillie Pearl (Clary) Griffin in Copperas Cove, Texas. LaNelle married Gordon H. Montgomery on December 14, 1943 in Blackwell, Texas. She and Gordon spent most of their lives in Blackwell, later moving to Abilene. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Blackwell and after moving to Abilene at Pioneer Drive Baptist Church. She was active in church activities. LaNelle was a homemaker, talented seamstress and wonderful cook. She will be greatly missed by her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, John Griffin; sisters, May Griffin, Opal Hart, Lillie Pearl Townsend; husband, Gordon; and grandson, Wade Kinerd. LaNelle is survived by her brother, Lynn Griffin; daughters, Sharon Kinerd of Abilene and Carolyn and Rich Buccieri of Austin; three grandchildren, Bryan Buccieri and wife Kendal, Keri Murphy and husband Shelby, and Gina Nichols and husband Cory; and nine great-grandchildren, Devin, Cameron, Ethan, Darrah, Preston, James, Cillian, Corbin and Kensley. Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 14, in Blackwell Cemetery in Blackwell, Texas, with Dr. Jeff Reid officiating, directed by The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, Abilene. Visitation will be 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. Monday, April 13, at the funeral home. The family expresses sincere thanks to everyone who helped take care of LaNelle in her final days.
