1957 — October 14, 2009

Kyle Wheatley Williams of Abilene, TX passed away on October 14, 2009 after a valiant battle with cancer. She was 52. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, October 17, 2009 at the Church of the Heavenly Rest, Episcopal, 602 Meander St., Abilene, TX. The Right Reverend J. Scott Mayer, Bishop; The Reverend Mary Glover, Associate Rector; and The Rev. Art Goolsbee, Deacon will officiate. The family will greet friends at the church following the service. Arrangements are by The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Mrs. Williams was born in Washington, DC to Col. and Mrs. Melford M. Wheatley on September 20, 1957. An Army Brat, she lived in Germany, Okinawa, Kansas, Oklahoma and Michigan while growing up. She graduated from Mt. Clemens High School, Mt. Clemens, MI in 1975, where she was Salutatorian of her class. She competed on the men's swim team, was 5th in the State for back stroke and was president of the Aquabelles synchronized swim team. She graduated from Texas A&M University in 1978 where she majored in Parks and Recreation and was a member of Chi Omega. Kyle married George Boone Williams on July 14, 1978 in a sunset ceremony at Washington-on-the-Brazos State Park. Married for thirty-one years, they had two sons, Hunter Ryland and Reese Franklin. Hunter is a graduate of Abilene Cooper High School and Davidson College. Reese is a member of the class of 2010 of Abilene Cooper High School. Mrs. Williams managed and owned tennis shops at Fairway Oaks Country Club and later at the Abilene Country Club for nearly thirty years. An avid tennis fan, she was very involved with Abilene tennis and attended Wimbledon and the U.S. Open on many occasions. She was an active member of the Altar Guild of the Church of the Heavenly Rest, the Young Audiences Board and Young Life; a sustaining member of the Junior League and a strong booster of Abilene Cooper High School athletics. Preceding her in death were her parents, Melford and Marcine Wheatley of Mt. Clemens, MI and her brother-in-law, Gerald Thayer of Wolfeboro, NH. Kyle is survived by her husband, George Williams; their sons Hunter Williams of Austin, TX and Reese Williams of Abilene, TX; her Mother-in-law, Florence Williams of Bryan, TX; Candace Wheatley Thayer of Wolfeboro, NH; Dennis and Dottie Wheatley of Sugar Land, TX; David and Lynn Wheatley of Hamilton, VA; Michael Wheatley of Olympia, WA; Richard and Dee Wheatley of Plainwell, MI; Eric Wheatley and Maureen Mackey of Royal Oak, MI; Bob and Gwen Williams of Denver, CO; Gaye and Charlie Caldwell of Bryan, TX; Clay Williams and Dr. Danielle Rosser of Houston, TX; 14 nieces and nephews and countless friends. The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to Dr. Victor Hirsch, his staff, the nursing staff of the Hendrick Medical Center 7th floor and the staff of the Church of the Heavenly Rest.
