KV Sneed

KV Sneed, 95, went to be with Jesus in Heaven on Saturday, September 16, 2017. Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm, Tuesday, September 19, 2017, at First Baptist Church in Tuscola, Texas at 7th and Kent Avenue, with Burtis Williams and DeWayne Bush officiating. Burial will follow at Elmwood Memorial Park in Abilene, Texas. Services are under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Rd., Abilene, TX. KV was born in Ecru, Mississippi on August 16, 1922, and was the son of the late William Edgar and Lonnie Belle Sneed. At the age of 5, KV and his family moved from Mississippi to Pumphrey, Texas, which was located just outside of Winters, Texas. Prior to graduation from Winters High School, KV enlisted in the Navy where he served as a signalman during WWII. After returning home from the war, he met and married Patty J Howard. KV worked for 45 plus years in the construction industry as a structural steel worker and welder. He was awarded the Craftsman of the Year Award in 1988 for his outstanding work with structural steel and his dedication to the construction industry. He was a lifetime member of the International Association of Bridge, Structural, Ornamental and Reinforcing Ironworkers Local 263. When KV retired from construction work, he farmed and had a mowing business. Since 1991, he and Patty lived in South Taylor County and before that in Abilene, Texas. In 2001, the State of Texas and Winters High School awarded KV his long overdue High School Diploma after his graduation was interrupted by his enlistment in the Navy. In April 2011, KV was selected and honored to be a part of the West Texas Honor Flight to Washington, DC, to view the WWII Memorial. KV enjoyed baseball, playing cards and dominoes, and working with his grandsons. He was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was always willing and available to help others in time of need. KV was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and five brothers. He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Patty J Sneed; his daughter, Glenda Buhrmann and husband David of Abilene, TX; two grandsons, Joel (Sport) Buhrmann and wife Jennifer of Justin, TX, Patrick Buhrmann and wife Dawn of Ft. Worth, TX; and one great granddaughter, Kira Buhrmann; his brother Bill Sneed and wife Ginger of Talpa, TX; two sisters, Mae Manns, of Hendersonville, NC, and Doris Nunn and husband Art of Phoenix, AZ; and many beloved nieces, nephews and good friends.
