Kenneth Wayne Williams was born on October 20, 1938 in Nacogdoches, Texas and died peacefully on Sunday, December 18, 2016 in Abilene, Texas at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was the second son of the late Clyde L. and Velta Mae (McKinney) Williams. His parent’s family was deeply rooted in and around the east Texas town of San Augustine. He was educated in the first through twelfth grade in the Houston public school system and afterwards received a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Houston in 1961.
Ken accepted Christ and was baptized on March 16, 1947. On September 14, 1962, Ken was married to Lynelle (Nell) Tankersley in Abilene, Texas, thus beginning a long, loving, and successful relationship which lasted over 54 years. He was a devoted Christian, husband, father and Houston Cougar fan throughout his life.
Ken enjoyed a reputation as a hard worker both as employee and employer. He took great care to treat all employees as he would like to have been treated and he took great pride in the successes of his former employees. From his office in Abilene, he provided engineering design for facilities throughout the southwest where he became one of the most prolific and respected engineers in the State of Texas.
He was privileged to have served on the board of directors of the First National Bank of Anson, Texas for 37 years.
Ken is survived by his wife of 54 years, Nell Williams, daughter Kim Clonts and husband Greg of Knox City, Texas, son Ken Williams,II and wife Amber of Tulsa, Oklahoma, granddaughters Cyd Williams Brown and husband Trey of Ft. Worth, Texas, Lauren Clonts Hill and husband Sean of Lubbock, Texas, and Emily Clonts Cates and husband Kevin of Knox City, Texas. Ken had one grandson, Creighton Williams of Abilene, Texas. He is also survived by his brother, James and wife Linda of Arlington, Texas, one brother-in-law Jimmy Tankersley and wife Ann of Knox City, and one sister-in-law Judy Mitchell of Wichita Falls.
In addition, Ken loved his six great-grandsons: Hudson, Everett, Eli, and Campbell Cates, Parks Lawson, and Landon Williams, and one great-granddaughter Everly Grey Hill, and one great-granddaughter expected in January of 2017.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Anton Melnyk and Hospice of the Big Country for the loving care provided to Ken and the kindness and compassion shown to our family.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 30, 2016 at 1:00 pm at Pioneer Drive Baptist Church, 701 South Pioneer Drive, in Abilene, Texas followed by a visitation. Services are under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, Abilene, Texas.
