Kenneth Varner, 41, of Abilene died Tuesday, March 24, 2009 in Houston, Texas. Funeral services will be at 10:30 am on Saturday, March 28 at Highland Church of Christ. Bob Scott will officiate. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.
August 7, 1967, Kenneth was born in Cleveland, Ohio to Roy D. Varner and Carla Choate Varner. He graduated from Cooper High School. Kenneth lived in Houston for the past two years. He was a member of Highland Church of Christ in Abilene.
Kenneth shared joys of life for more than a decade in a special community of remarkable companions at Disability Resources Incorporated (DRI). They led happy and enjoyable lives in their cottage homes. They worked together as a productive community under a sign which read: "World Champs Work Here." Kenneth and his friends daily demonstrated their unique qualities, personal dignity and unique identity. Together, they were achievers of a high level of their potential in life. A quiet person, Kenneth brought joys and affection to all his relationships.
He was preceded in death by his father, Roy D. Varner and his step-father, Gerald Vincent. Kenneth is survived by his mother, Carla Varner Vincent, of Abilene; one brother, Kelly Varner, of Houston; one step-brother, Steven Vincent Malden, of Houston; one step-sister, Sandy Freeman, of Abilene; his step-grandmother, Rosemary Choate, also of Abilene; four uncles, Garland Choate and his wife Susan, Darrell Varner and his wife Ethel, Terry Varner and David Varner; one aunt, Sharon Simpson and numerous cousins.
