K.O. Killian, 90, of Abilene died Tuesday, August 5, 2014, at Windcrest Alzheimer Care Center in Abilene.
Born in Abilene, Texas on November 24, 1923, he was the son of Alzina (Oney) and Charlie C. Killian. He attended Abilene High School and served in the U. S. Navy.
K.O. retired from Southwestern Bell and AT&T after a 30-year career.
He was involved in numerous civic and other activities, as well as various recognitions throughout the years. Included in those are 1993 Chuckwagon Cook for Rehab; Rehab Telethon - over 20 years of hooking up phone lines; wired a hotline at Dyess AFB for President Ford when he came to Abilene; Taylor County Humane Society for Horses; a finalist for National Volunteer of the Year “Jefferson Award”; Taylor County Sheriff Posse (1986) – rode in many parades and rodeo entries; and Boy Scouts as a Troup Leader for over 20 years.
He was preceded in death on July 27, 2011 by his wife, Eva Ann Killian, whom he married in August of 1970 in Breckenridge, Texas. K.O. was also preceded in death by one son, Gary Killian, and a brother, Charles C. Killian.
K.O. is survived by two sons, Mike Lanier and wife Kay of Abilene, and Ricky Killian of Abilene; a daughter, Lisa Anne Carter and husband Nick of Abilene; a daughter-in-law, Linda Killian; five grandchildren, Brooks Lanier and wife Kascha, Mikea Lanier Glenn and husband Randy, Kara Short and husband Larry, Brittany Carter and Lacy Killian; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, as well as close family friend, Kim Montana.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, August 8, in Elmwood Memorial Park with Pastor Greg Clemmer officiating, directed by The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene. The family will receive friends 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, August 7, at the funeral home.
