Kenneth Martin Farrington, 76, went home to the arms of his Heavenly Father on Tuesday, March 1, 2016 in Abilene, Texas.
The son of Theresa Gladys (Reed) and James Carl Farrington, Kenneth was born on October 27, 1939 in Frisco, Texas, and attended Abilene High School. He served in the National Guard from 1961 to 1967, and on March 2, 1968 in Abilene, he married the love of his life, Teddy Peek.
Kenneth and his brother, Jimmy, started Farrington Bros., which became the jobber for Fina for West Central Texas and grew to over 40 locations from 1956 to 1986. Farrington Bros. was sold to Fina in 1987. Kenneth then continued a career in ranching and investments.
Kenneth was a member of Westgate Church of Christ where he served as a deacon. He also served as a board member of the Food Bank of West Central Texas.
He and his wife, Teddy Jo, enjoyed several years of travel throughout the USA, covering many, many miles.
His parents; his brother, Jimmy; and six sisters, Mary, Carla, Dess, Genevieve, Bo and Carlyne, preceded Kenneth in death.
Kenneth is survived by his wife of 48 years, Teddy Jo Farrington, and children and their spouses, Deborah Farrington, Melinda Stephens and Brad, Kevin Shipley and Darcas all of Abilene, Tony Shipley and Tanya of Hutto, Texas, and Steven Farrington of Clyde. Survivors also include ten grandchildren, Caleb, Colby, Ford, Megan, Brooke, Addison, Kimberly, Sarah, Seth and Gracie, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Always putting others first, Kenneth was known for his humble demeanor and loving compassion for his family and everyone with whom he came in contact.
The family will receive friends at a visitation from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, March 3, 2016 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 4, in The Hamil Family Funeral Home Chapel with Lynn Blair officiating. A private burial will follow the service.
The family expresses special thanks to the nurses and staffs of Hendrick Medical Center CCU and Hendrick Hospice Care.
