Kenneth G. Curry, 78, of Abilene passed away on Saturday, December 1, 2012.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 5, at Pioneer Drive Baptist Church with Rev. Stan Allcorn officiating, directed by The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene.
Kenneth was born in Titusville, Pennsylvania to Earl and Jane Curry on February 19, 1934. He attended college at the University of Pennsylvania until he joined the U. S. Air Force in 1953. Ken completed the Aviation Cadet program and graduated in 1954 as a USAF Pilot. He graduated from the USAF advanced pilot school in Enid, Oklahoma in April, 1955, and was a Captain and a Senior pilot in the USAF where he flew many USAF aircraft both domestic and internationally. He flew in the USAF as Aircraft Commander on the B-47, the KC 97 and the KC 135 before he began flying as a civilian pilot.
He began his airline career with American Airlines in 1965 and graduated from the 727 AA training school, Fort Worth, Carter Field in December 1965 and was transferred to New York where he worked until 1968. He was then transferred to Los Angeles, CA where he flew all of AA's aircraft. He flew as Captain on the MD 80 aircraft and the DC-10 until he was transferred to Dallas, Texas in 1992 where he flew as Captain on the DC-10 and MD11 aircrafts. He was upgraded to International Captain and transferred to Chicago in 1994. He flew as International Captain on the MD-11 until he retired in 1995 and moved to Abilene, Texas.
Kenneth married Patricia Ramsey in 2002.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Jane Curry. Kenneth is survived by his wife, Patricia Ramsey Curry of Abilene; sons, Seth Ramsey and wife Nadia of Houston and Jason Ramsey of Dallas; daughter-in-law, Amy Curry of Mountain View, CA; brother, Charles T. Curry of Covington, WA; and two grandsons, Craig Curry and Davey Ramsey.
