Kay McGlothlin

1927 — October 9, 2017

Kay McGlothlin, 90 years old, of Abilene, passed away on Monday, October 9, 2017. Visitation will be at 10 a.m. Friday, October 13, 2017, at Hillcrest Church of Christ, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. and burial in Elmwood Memorial Park. Services are under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, Abilene. Kay was born Kathryn Elaine Dollar in Memphis, TN, on April 29, 1927, the first child of Edmond Daniel and Elsie Shook Dollar. On December 15, 1947, she married Ray McGlothlin, Jr. in Abilene, and in 1949 she graduated from Abilene Christian University with a degree in English. She was a homemaker and a pioneer in writing early childhood Bible curriculum. Kay served on the boards of ACU Alumni and Friends of the ACU Library. As a founding member of the Women for ACU, she served as president and was named Woman of the Year by WACU in 1990. In 1974 she received a Distinguished Alumni Citation, and in 1984 received ACU's Inaugural Christian Service Award along with Ray. She supported the women of GATA social club, the "W" Club, and the ACU women's basketball and softball teams. Kay was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Dan Dollar; and grandson Bryce Oliver. Survivors include her husband, Ray McGlothlin, Jr. of Abilene; daughters Karyn Henley of Nashville, TN; Nita Rampey of Victoria, TX; Danna Oliver of Abilene; and Caryl Parker of Nashville; sister Dot Lincoln Cunningham of Lubbock; 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be sons-in-law Ralph Henley, Tim Rampey, Eric Oliver, Scott Parker and grandsons Christopher Rampey, Raygan Henley, and Heath Henley. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Ray and Kay McGlothlin Scholarship Fund at Abilene Christian University, Hillcrest Church of Christ Zambian Mission Fund, World Christian Broadcasting, Pregnancy Resources of Abilene, or a charity of the donor's choice. The family wishes to extend their sincere appreciation to Dr. Gary Holland for his care as both physician and friend; Elida Hernandez and Adolfo Ortiz for their servant spirit as caretakers; Smitty Brecheen, June Estes, Jeanette Lipford, and Jan McCoy for their faithful support as fellow prayer group members; and members of Hillcrest Church of Christ for being Kay's spiritual family.
