Kathryn Young, 94, of Abilene, passed away on Saturday, October 8, 2016 in Weatherford, Texas. Funeral services will be at 10:30 am on Friday, October 14, 2016 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Rev. Larry Baird will officiate. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Thursday, October 13, 2016 at the funeral home.
Kathryn was born October 29, 1921 in DeLeon, Texas to Samuel and Leila (Norton) Bond. She graduated from DeLeon High School in 1939. Kathryn married John William Young, Jr. on September 18, 1943 and in 1945 moved to Abilene. During World War II, she worked for Western Union for three years. She was also a secretary for nine years for Anderson Clayton. She was a good example and representative of "America's Greatest Generation" of which Tom Brokaw spoke and wrote about. Kathryn was a member of First Christian Church, but in later years she attended Abundant Life Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel and Leila Bond; her husband, John William Young, Jr. in September of 1991; and one sister, Merle Tilly.
Kathryn is survived by two sons, Sam Young and wife Carolyn of Springtown, TX and Travis Young and wife, Nguyet of Ft. Worth, TX; and four grandchildren.
