Justine Digby-Roberts Grisham

Justine Grisham, 86, died Wednesday, November 19, 2014, in Abilene. She was the daughter of Ida Marr Tobin of Austin and Frederick William Digby-Roberts of Abilene. She was born in Dallas on July 15, 1928. Justine was preceded in death by her husband Robert Douglas “Bob” Grisham on February 24, 2006; parents, Frederick and Ida Marr Digby-Roberts; and grandparents, Frederick Charles and Fannie Torrey Digby-Roberts who were an early day family who came from England and Philadelphia in 1883 and 1885. She was also the great-granddaughter of William Torrey who was Abilene’s first wholesale grocer in 1883. She is survived by two children, Tom Grisham of Abilene and Cynthia Marr Grisham O’Keeffe and son-in-law, Kevin F. O’Keeffe, of Austin; and one grandson, Kevin Patrick O’Keeffe of New York. She graduated from Arlington Heights High School in Fort Worth and attended the University of Texas where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority. Justine married Robert “Bob” Grisham of Abilene in 1948 at the Church of the Heavenly Rest, Episcopal. She was active in many organizations throughout the years and along with her husband was one of the founders of Serenity House of Abilene, as well as a longtime board member of that organization. She was a member of the National Society, Daughters of the American Colonists and an early day member of the Abilene Service League which later became The Junior League of Abilene. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 22, at the Church of the Heavenly, Episcopal with The Rev. N. Luke Back officiating. Interment will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park in the Gazing Globe section directed by The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, Abilene. Memorials may be made to the donor’s charity of choice.
