JR (Junior) McCartney, 89, of Abilene, passed away on Thursday, December 13, 2018 in Abilene. Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, December 19, 2018 at the Granbury First United Methodist Church in Granbury, Texas with Scott Goodfellow, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. JR was born on December 7, 1929 in San Saba, Texas to the late William and Ida (Fisher) McCartney. He graduated from Rochelle High School. He and Anna Louise Price were married on May 29, 1955 in Rochelle. She preceded him in death on January 27, 2018. JR worked as a Senior Production Operator for Shell Oil. He was a member of the Granbury First United Methodist Church, the Masonic Lodge #392 in Granbury and he served in the US Navy. JR previously resided in Odessa, McCamey, Quanah, and Ozona before moving to Granbury, Texas. JR was preceded in death by four sisters and four brothers. Survivors include, two sons, Kenneth Ross McCartney of Amarillo, Texas and Gregory Lee McCartney and wife Starla of Red Oak, Texas; one daughter, Danita Bounds and husband Mike of Abilene; twin brother and sister, Bobby McCartney of Anna, Texas and Betty Phelps of Athens, Texas; eight grandchildren, Regina Baukol, Jennifer Payton, Kendra McCartney, Shayna McCartney, Katherine Brooke Bounds Wright, Chris Bounds, Brady Bounds, and Jaxon Bounds; and six great grandchildren. Family suggests memorials may be made to the Granbury First United Methodist Church, 301 Loop 567, Granbury, TX 76048.
