Judy Finley Daniel, of Abilene, Texas, passed away on December 18, 2017.
Memorial services will be held 11:00 AM Friday, December 22, 2017 at St. Paul United Methodist Church, 525 Beech Street, Abilene, Texas with Dr. Cliff Stewart and Dr. Janice Six officiating, directed by The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, Abilene.
Judy was born in Ft. Knox, Kentucky to Nadine and William Finley on February 14, 1949. She graduated from Monterey High School, Texas Tech University, and Hardin Simmons University. She married her best friend, Steven Daniel on December 27th, 1970 in Lubbock, Texas. They shared 47 years of bliss with nary a cross word.
She was a Professor of English and Holocaust History, taught at McMurry University for 25 years. Judy was a mentor to the T.I.P. social club. She leaves a tremendous legacy through the lives of the women and students whom she guided.
Judy loved literature and was active in her book clubs, the Gold Club, Libretto (that read books) and the Lost Girls (that rarely read). She was devoted to her Birthday Group and delighted in and treasured the Cotillion Italian Parties!
She was a member of First Central Presbyterian, and the Beth Moore Bible Study Group.
Judy is survived by her husband Steven, her son Josh, daughter-in-law Kara, and the center of Judy's world her beloved grandchildren, Drew, Olivia and Ford. She is also survived by extended family Dawn & Ted Kingsbery, Stan & Carole Daniel, Tim & Jennye Daniel, and her nieces, nephews and cousins. Her son, Jonathan, passed away December 19, 2017. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, William James Finley.
Judy's personal philosophy: "All we carry to the grave are those we love and those who love us. I have never seen a U-Haul at a funeral - - - stuff does not matter, but, friends and relationships are all we have."
