Judy Ann Morgan Chittum, 69, went to be with her Lord, Jesus Christ, on Easter Sunday, April 20, 2014. She was born to the late George and Della Eulala “Pat” Pillans Morgan on April 6, 1945, in Baird, Texas. Judy graduated from Baird High School in 1963, received a Bachelor’s of Science in Business Education from Sul Ross State University in 1968, and later obtained her teaching certificate from McMurry University. She married Leon Chittum in 1973 and they lived happily together in Abilene, Texas while recently celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary.
Judy took the Lord, Jesus Christ, as her savior when she was 14-years-old and was a member of Southwest Park Baptist Church for 55 years while enjoying time at Beltway Baptist Church as well. She was a retired 30-year elementary school teacher who was passionate about her students from both Dyess and Bassetti Elementary. She loved her family, reading, Leon’s cooking, estate sales, the Morgan and Pillans family reunions, spoiling grandchildren, and “making memories.”
Judy is survived by her loving husband, Leon Chittum, as well as their five children: Blane Barnes and wife Linda of Houston, TX; Whitnee Tibbets of Abilene, TX; Kandal Steenbock and husband Martin of Plano, TX; Stephanie Taylor and husband Ikie of Abilene, TX; and Missy Valentine and husband Vic of Bradenton, FL. She is also survived by her nine grandchildren: Morgan Cleveland, M’Leigh Cleveland, Kristen Taylor, Brandt Taylor, Cole Taylor, Mattie Tibbets, Tate Tibbets, Kyle Valentine, and Sydne Valentine.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, April 24, 2014 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Wednesday at the funeral home.
