Juanita M. Harris, 93, died Sunday, March 15, 2009, at an Abilene medical center.
Graveside services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday in Elmwood Memorial Park with Rev. C. W. Sexton officiating, directed by The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Born in Jayton, Kent County, Texas, Juanita was the daughter of Ethel (Bumgardner) and Henry J. Moreland. Having been a resident of Abilene for 85 years, she was a graduate of Abilene High School and attended Hardin-Simmons University. On April 2, 1938, she married George D. Harris in Abilene. Mrs. Harris worked for twelve years as a dorm aide at the Abilene State School. She was a member of University Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George, in 1960; son, James Robert Harris; parents; one brother and one sister.
Juanita is survived by daughters, Judy A. Giles and husband, Bill, of Clyde, and Carol Thompson and husband, Larry, of Abilene; a daughter-in-law, Pat Harris of Arlington; six grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and several nephews and nieces.
