Juana June Goodwin Petty

1925 — July 28, 2018

June Goodwin Petty, 93, went to be with our Lord Jesus Christ on Saturday, July 28, 2018 in Waxahachie, Texas.  She was born June 19, 1925, to Lewis V. Goodwin and Velma Cooper Goodwin in Roby, Texas.

June met her husband, Herman Petty, while attending Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene.  They were married October 24, 1943, in Dothan, Alabama, while Herman was in the Army.

After WWII, they both completed their educations graduating from HSU, getting their master’s degrees in religious education from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas.

June served as a Southern Baptist Missionary Teacher in Nazareth, Israel, from 1953-1962.  She worked as a Preschool/Kindergarten Teacher at Pioneer Drive Baptist Church from 1963-1975.  For many years, until her health began to decline, she worked with Internationals, ministering to people new to our country.  She enjoyed playing the piano for various singing groups and played several times a week at various nursing homes.

June was preceded in death by infant brothers Ray and Clay Goodwin, mother and dad Lewis and Velma Goodwin, husband Herman Petty, brother Dwight Goodwin, and grandson Samuel Petty.

June is survived by her son David Petty and wife Kathy of Comanche; daughter Ann Petty Amerson and husband Guy, missionaries in Kenya; daughter Joan Petty Arnold and husband Eddie of Waxahachie; son Doug Petty and wife Cindy of Abilene; daughter Joy Petty Miller and husband Dan of Tuscola; 19 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and a host of friends.

Funeral service will be 11:00 A.M. Thursday, August 2, 2018 at Elmcrest Baptist Church.  Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. until service time at the church.  Burial will follow at Elmwood Memorial Park Cemetery.  Services are under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.
