Joyce Drummond Berry, 85, died Monday, October 24, 2011 in Snellville, Georgia. Services for Joyce will be held on Friday, October 28, at the View Baptist Church in View, Texas, at 10 a.m. Officiating the services will be Richard Petree and Greg Rake. Burial will be in Drummond Cemetery in View directed by The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene.
Joyce was born August 14, 1926 in View, Texas to Tom Drummond and Alma Richards Drummond. Joyce graduated from Abilene High School in 1944. Upon graduation, Joyce moved to Washington, DC to begin work for the military. During that time, she worked under General Dwight Eisenhower. While there, she met James "Jim" Berry while he was attending medical school at Washington and Lee University. They were married in 1945. In 1947, son Jim was born. Later, daughter Pam was born in Bethesda, Maryland in 1952. While serving in the Navy, Jim, Joyce and family were stationed in Oahu, Hawaii. In 1955, the family moved to Fort Lauderdale, FL where her son, JT was born. Jim died in 1978. Joyce moved back to Abilene in 1983. During her time back in Abilene, she worked for Fun Valley Resort and spent her summers in Colorado. Joyce moved to Georgia in 2006.
Joyce was preceded in death by her husband James F. Berry, M.D. and her parents, Tom Drummond and Alma Richards Drummond.
She is survived by her son, James F. Berry J.D., Ph.D. of Glen Ellyn, Illinois, her daughter Pamela J. Jaecksch of Lilburn, Georgia, and son John T. "JT" Berry of Woodstock, Georgia. She is also survived by grandchildren Shannon Jaecksch Burnaine, Jon "Jacob" J. Jaecksch, Jarod J. Jaecksch, Jennifer L. Berry Hawes, Andrea Berry Haro, Rigel Cano and Halliea Millner. Her great grandchildren are Kalib, Gage, Lauren, Wesley, T.J., Justin, Sidnee, John Parker, and Ryder. She is also survived by numerous cousins.
