Joseph Harrison Roeder, 91, of Abilene, TX, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March15, 2017, in Abilene, Texas.
The family will receive friends at a visitation from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, March 17th, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, Abilene. A memorial service will be held at First Central Presbyterian Church on Saturday, March 18th, at 3:00 p.m. with Dr. Cliff Stewart officiating.
Joe was born in Titusville, PA to Gladys and William Roeder on July 27, 1925. He received his undergraduate degree from the College of Wooster, OH and went on to earn a Masters degree in Geology from the University of Pittsburg. Joe was an active member of First Central Presbyterian Church where he served as an Elder and Stephens Minister. He was honored to receive the Paul Harris Fellow Award from Rotary. While active in Boy Scouts he received the Silver Beaver award for his outstanding contributions to Boy Scouts.
Joe was preceded in death by his first wife, Shirley; his sister, Elizabeth; and his sister-in-law, Flo. He is survived by his wife, Lavern; brothers William and Richard (wife Nancy). He is also survived by his sons Robert (wife Teresa), Carl (wife Lynn), daughter Susan (husband Robert), loving extended family Mark Donnell, Ralph Donnell, III (wife Tina), and Steven Donnell (wife Elisa) and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Joe was a kind man who loved God and his family above all else and was dearly loved in return by his family and friends.
The family would like to thank his care givers Janice Heggendahl, Angela Reeder, Carina Ramon and Brittany Weilert for their loving care of Joe.
