Joseph G. Johnson, 85, of Abilene, passed away on Tuesday, September 1, 2020 in Abilene.
Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, September 14, 2020 at The Texas State Veterans Cemetery with Ray Smith, officiating. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.
Joseph was born on January 28, 1935 in Watertown, Wisconsin to the late John H. and Pauline (Summers) Johnson. He and Anna Geppi were married on August 8, 1962 in Santa Maria, California. He graduated from Cisco Jr College where he later taught computer classes.
Joseph served in the US Air Force for 28 years. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a member of the VFW Post 6873, American Legion, DVA, NCOA, Iris Daily Society, US Friendship Filipino Club, and the Chief’s Group. Joseph loved his cats and dogs, talking about his career in the Air Force and spending time with people. He enjoyed building model planes and fishing. One of his favorite pastimes was buying gadgets from the infomercials on TV with a good friend.
Joseph was preceded in death by two brothers, Ed C. Johnson and John J. Johnson.
Joseph is survived by his wife, Anna of Abilene; three nephews, Kurt Johnson, Jay Johnson and Kyle Johnson; three nieces, Lynn Johnson, Jennifer Johnson and Marie Johnson; and his dear friends, Clint Lynch, Richard and Darlene Gonzales, Ron Diener and his many friends at the American Legion.
