Joseph Marvin "Joe" Arey Jr. Joe Arey, 85, passed away Saturday, December 17, 2005 at a local hospital. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:00 pm on Monday, December 19, 2005 at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Funeral services will be at 1:00 pm at the First United Methodist Church, with Rev. Ronnie Newton officiating. Luke Newton will be soloist. Burial will follow at Fort Phantom Hill Cemetery. Joe Arey was born February 10, 1920 to parents Marvin Arey and Anna Belle Honea Arey in Abilene, Texas. He graduated from Abilene High School, where he played in the band under the direction of Prof Bynam. He also attended McMurry College, which is now McMurry University. Joe served in the United States Navy during World War II. He married Idi Mae Robertson in February 1975 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Joe retired from Dyess Air Force Base as a Civil Engineer also in 1975. After retiring, he worked for Monty Howard Professional Services. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Abilene and a member of Gideon International Bible Society. Joe was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, William Arey. He is survived by his wife, Idi Mae Robertson Arey of Abilene; three sons, Jay Arey of Abilene, Ronnie Newton and his wife Gwen of Odessa, and Billy Newton of Abilene; two daughters, Ann Wagner and her husband John of Abilene, Cindy Ehart and husband Kevin of Marshall Islands; one sister Joye Dyess of Tampa, Florida; eight grandchildren, Dale Wagner and his wife Jamy, Jay Wagner and his wife Kim, Tanner Arey, Luke Newton and his wife Kara, John and Mark Newton, Colby and Kye Ehart; three great grandchildren, Jennifer Munsell and her husband Levi, Jayson Wagner and Silas Newton. Joe is also survived by his adoptive family, daughter Theresa Tune and her deceased husband Earl Tune; three grandsons, John David Tune and his wife Mary, Matt Tune, Robbie Tune and his wife Christa; and two great grandsons, Jonathan and Will Tune. Memorials may be made in honor of Joe to the First United Methodist Church Building Fund, 1318 South 2nd, Abilene, Texas 79602 or Gideon International Memorial Bible Chairman, P.O.
