Jonya Lea Schuman

1969 — May 28, 2012

Jonya Schuman, 42, of Tye, passed away Monday, May 28, 2012 at a local hospital. Funeral services will be at 10:00 am on Wednesday at the River of Life Church. Graveside services will be on Thursday, May 31 at 2:00 pm at the Lake Chapel Cemetery in Fairfield, Texas. Services are under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Jonya Schuman was born Jonya Lea Anderson September 19, 1969 in Fairfield, Texas to Bradley Anderson, Jr. and Anita Ward Anderson. Her proud parents and sister, Tonya, took her home to their little house on the corner of Oak Street and FM 488. Jonya was a charming little girl with an endearing smile and a contagious giggle. She was a straight A student throughout her academic career and FISD from making the highest score on her elementary achievement test to graduating ninth in the class of 1988. She will forever be remembered as the "Greatest Eagle Mascot ever at FHS". Jonya graduated Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas in May of 1993 with a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary English. She taught school at Fairfield Elementary until marrying Stephen Craig Schuman July 2, 1995. Craig and Jonya made their home in Tye, Texas where she was a devoted homemaker and a respected member of her church. She committed her life to being a servant of Jesus Christ and a prayer warrior for her family, friends, and community. Jonya's faith and devotion to God was a testimony to many. She supported her husband in his work and his ministry while being a devoted mother to their children Bonnie, David, and Carrie Grace. In her 6 year battle with cancer Jonya was always more concerned with the welfare of others, ministering hope, healing, and encouragement to the sick and to those that were hurting. Her faith never wavered and her joy was evident in her prayers and as she worshiped her King Jesus. In one of her last Facebook posts she stated: "I'm lying up here being still and weak, but sometimes I just start to giggle to myself because I feel this ball of light deep inside me that is just too alive to kill. So then I hear, 'can't touch this, nah, nananah......' Good thing I'm easily entertained, huh?" As Jonya lay in her hospital bed one of the last things she said to her loved ones was, "Tell 'em, 'I had fun y'all!'" My friends, JONYA HAD FUN! She was preceded in death by her husband, Stephen Craig Schuman. Jonya is survived by her children Bonnie, David, and Carrie Grace Schuman, parents Bradley and Anita Anderson, parents-in-law Butch and Donna Schuman, sister Tonya Lindsey and her husband Meredith, sister-in-law Mandy McLean and husband Ernie, 2 nieces, 5 nephews, and 2 great nieces. Her family deeply misses her but she is worshipping at the throne of her beloved Jesus now and forevermore. We give God all honor and praise for her life and for His grace in our time of grief. Memorials may be made in Jonya's honor to: Proclamation Ministries, P.O. Box 502, Neosho, MO 64850; Raven Ministries International, P.O.
