Jonell Brown

Jonell Brown, 89, died Saturday, February 3, 2018 in Abilene, Texas. The daughter of the late Mary Elizabeth (Ainsworth) and C.B. Fortenberry, Jonell was born on March 2, 1928 in Groesbeck, Texas. She was a home care nurses aide from 1951 to 1994 working for the Taylor County Health Department. She was a member of Crescent Heights Baptist Church in Abilene. Jonell was preceded in death by her husband, J.C. Brown on July 25, 1983; three brothers, Burris, Odell and Louis Fortenberry; and four sisters, Estell Palmer, Helen Polomes, Marie Campbell and Laura B. Fortenberry. Survivors include two sons, Marvin Curtis Brown of Wendell, North Carolina, and William Henry Brown of San Antonio; a daughter, Diane Irwin of Abilene; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held at 3:00PM Friday, February 9, 2018 in Elmwood Memorial Park with Rev. David Cason officiating, directed by The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road, Abilene. Memorials may be made to Meals on Wheels Plus, Inc, P.O. Box 903, Abilene, TX 79604.
