Johnny Clinton Newton, 73, died Friday, May 25, 2012, at an Abilene medical center. Born in Abilene, Texas on November 17, 1938, he was the son of Sue (Reynolds) and Luther Norman Newton. He was a lifelong resident of Abilene, where he married Cathy Loretta Fortune on December 17, 1976. Johnny was a glazer and sales representative for Binswanger Glass Company. He served in the US Army Reserves and was a Baptist. His parents, three sisters, and two brothers preceded Johnny in death. Survivors include his wife, Cathy Newton of Abilene; two sons, Jerry Newton and wife Paula of Decatur, and Robert Newton and wife Kelly of Clyde; one brother, Jim Newton and wife Judy of Abilene; six grandchildren, Kody Newton, Monty Newton, Tyler Newton, Caleb Newton, Samuel Newton and Abigail Newton; and numerous nieces, nephews and other family members. Graveside services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, May 28, in Old Cross Plains Cemetery with Ricky Moore officiating. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene. Memorial contributions may be made to Hendrick Hospice Care, 1682 Hickory Street, Abilene, TX 79601, or the donor's favorite charity.
