Johnny Flo Moutray, 83, died Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene.
The daughter of Della (Higginbotham) and George Riley Wragg, she was born on March 3, 1931 in Abilene, Texas. A lifelong resident of Abilene, she graduated from both Abilene High School and Hardin-Simmons University. On August 11, 1951 in Abilene, Johnny Flo married Waldo Wentworth Moutray, Jr. Her career teaching 4th and 5th grades spanned 30 years (1959 to 1989), most of which were with Abilene ISD at Johnston Elementary. She also taught in Pampa, TX, in Louisiana for a short period of time, and at Jane Long Elementary in Abilene for a short time.
She was a longtime active member of University Baptist Church in Abilene. Johnny Flo was a member of both Eastern Star and Delta Kappa Gamma, and was a mother advisor of the Rainbow Girls.
She was preceded in death by her husband on March 3, 1995; infant son, John Michael Moutray on February 5, 1957; infant daughter, Mary Ann Moutray on December 5, 1957; parents; brother, William Riley Wragg in the 1940’s; and sister, Sarah Joe Allen on June 22, 2010.
Survivors include her son, Worth Moutray and wife Diedra of Abilene; daughter, Melinda Flournoy and husband Greg of Edmond, OK; and four grandchildren, Amanda Stamps and husband Josh of Oklahoma City, Tyler Moutray of Abilene, Whitney Hardcastle and husband Josh of Fort Worth, and Hannah Flournoy of Edmond, OK.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 10, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene, with Jim Harcourt officiating. Burial will follow in Abilene Municipal Cemetery in the Cedar Hill Section. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Serving as pallbearers will be Mike Dickie, Ricky Thompson, Blake Champion, Josh Hardcastle, Joel Lawson and Dennis Tarrant.
